CLASS CREDIT (Less than 20 hours per Week)
For students that need volunteer hours for a class, we offer the opportunity for you to serve at our after school SmartKids Program. We require a MIMIMUM commitment of 1-hour per week for the entire semester (Sep - Dec, Feb - May), even if your professor requires less.
SmartKids volunteers serve at one of the Housing Authority of the City of Austin complexes located in south/central, east/central and northeast Austin. Depending on your availability and the HACA/SmartKids location, volunteers are needed Monday - Friday, 3:00 pm - 5:45 pm. You will need to complete our FIRST TIME volunteer application and follow the instructions you will receive via email once your application is submitted. References, a 15 minute personal interview and a 2 hour training are required.
All other vounteer assigned to a campus (versus SmartKids) require a full year commitment.
One-Time/Special Events opportunites are great for students that may need to volunteer but are unable to commit to a set day and time each week. By completing our SPECIAL EVENT application, you can join in on an array of different activities each month. We can not however guarantee that we can provide a particular number of hours and opportunities each month.
