Evan Smith, Editor and Executive Vice-President of TEXAS MONTHLY presenting at the Communities In Schools 2007 Spring Luncheon

The Communities In Schools 2007 Spring Luncheon was a tremendous success!

It was our largest event yet, raising over $50,000 towards our services for children and teens. We were so honored to have Communities In Schools graduates attend and participate, another first for this important event. Not only were we able to reach out to many prominent members of our community, we also received pledges of interest and support from 116 guests to volunteer, mentor, and learn more about those we serve.

Evan Smith, Editor and Executive Vice-President of TEXAS MONTHLY emceed the event, celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates and keeping guests laughing as he encouraged interest and support for Communities In Schools programs.

A poignant reminder of the day came when Jesse Harris, CIS Class of 2000 graduate from Travis High School, shared his story of challenge and subsequent accomplishment he achieved with the support and guidance of Communities In Schools. Following his speech, Eric Metcalf, Director of Programs, led a panel discussion with three current graduating students: Roberto Nunez of Johnston High School, Laura Jimenez of Lanier High School and Senetric Bunton of Johnston High School spoke of their experiences before and after engaging in Communities In Schools programs.

The 2007 Spring Luncheon was a powerful reminder of the crucial work we do every day in Central Texas. Thanks to everyone who attended. We hope to see you next year!
