BENEFITS SUMMARY
Communities In Schools-Central Texas, Inc. is committed to the emotional, mental and physical health of our staff. With this in mind, CIS-CT offers employees a generous amount of paid time off including holidays, sick time, annual leave, and personal days. In addition, all full time employees are eligible for enrollment in a full line of insurance coverage including health and dental plans, and qualify for participation in a 403(b) retirement plan. All full time and part time employees have access to a confidential employee assistance program. Here are a few highlights from our benefits package:
Holidays
Communities In Schools-Central Texas, Inc. follows the holiday calendars of the school districts where our campuses are located. The Central office follows the Austin ISD calendar. Employees do not work on the days the teachers do not work, except during the summer, as CIS-CT is a year-round agency. Paid holidays include the Thanksgiving holiday, winter holiday, spring break holiday, a summer holiday, and other standard holidays for teachers and students including bad weather make-up days. In the event a part time employee is not scheduled to work on a holiday, he or she will not be paid for that day.
Sick Leave
Sick leave accrues at 8 hours per month for a full-time employee. Up to 240 hours of unused sick leave may be carried over into a new fiscal year. No more than 240 total hours may be accrued at any time. Unused sick leave hours are not reimbursed upon separation from the agency.
Vacation
Annual leave time accrues at 6.66 hours per month for a full-time employee and is usually taken during the summer when campuses are not in operation. During an employee's first year of employment, annual leave hours accrue from the date of hire through the end of the agency fiscal year, August 31st. Hours in subsequent years accrue from September 1st through August 31st. Employees completing five years of employment accrue 8.66 hours per month; employees completing 10 years accrue 10.66 hours per month. Unused annual leave hours may not be carried over into the next fiscal year without prior approval of the employee's immediate supervisor and the agency Executive Director. Employees must complete six months of work before annual leave time may be used. Unused annual leave hours are reimbursed upon separation from the agency.
Personal Leave
Full-time employees have 24 hours of personal leave available to them when they begin working for the agency. Each year on the employee's anniversary date of hire, he or she will receive 24 new hours. The maximum number of personal hours for full-time employees is 24. These hours may not be carried over past the anniversary date. Unused personal hours are not reimbursed upon separation from the agency.
"Flex" Time
From time to time, an employee may find him/herself working additional hours. Exempt employees are strongly encouraged to flex the additional hours within the same month the hours were worked. If the additional hours are not flexed within the same month, they will not be carried forward.
Non-exempt employees are required to flex any additional hours during the same work week. Under no circumstances will a non-exempt employee work over 40 hours during any given work week.
Insurance Benefits
CIS-CT offers health insurance coverage for $20 per month to employees working 40 hours per week.
Employees working less than 40 but more than 24 hours per week have the option to participate in the insurance plan. The agency will pay the employee's premiums at the same percent of employment. For example, 75% of the employee's premium costs will be paid for an individual working 30 hours per week, or 75% of full-time. Participation in the premium health plan will be at the employee's expense.
Dependent medical and dental coverage is available at the employee's expense. Premiums are deducted from an employee's paycheck using pre-taxed dollars, in accordance with the Section 125 "cafeteria" plan in place. In the event a covered employee leaves the agency, he or she will have the option of continuing their health and dental coverage in accordance with standard COBRA provisions.
Medical Reimbursement Account
CIS-CT offers employees the option of redirecting a portion of their salary to provide reimbursement for eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses (such as deductibles and co-pays) incurred within a calendar year. Currently, the maximum amount that can be set aside in an individual account is $1,000 per year.
Dependent/Child Care Reimbursement Account
CIS-CT offers employees the option of redirecting a portion of their salary to provide reimbursement for eligible dependent/child care expenses incurred within a calendar year. Currently, the maximum amount that can be set aside in an individual account is $4,500 per year.
Voluntary Insurance Products
At this time, four optional AFLAC supplemental insurance polices are offered to employees: Accident Expense Plan, Cancer Protection Plan, Hospital Intensive Care Insurance, Hospital Indemnity Plan, and Short Term Disability. The employee bears the full premium costs of these voluntary products, which are included in the agency's "cafeteria" plan of benefits.
403(b) Retirement Plan
CIS-CT offers employees working at least 20 hours per week the opportunity to open a 403(b) retirement account with The Vanguard Group. Individual plans are totally employee-directed and are fully portable in the event of separation from the agency. The minimum personal contribution is $50 a month. Upon completing 12 months of continuous employment with CIS, the agency will match the employee's contribution up to $83.33 per month. The match amount is set each year when the CIS Board of Directors approves the agency budget.
Employee Assistance Program
CIS-CT offers all employees access to the benefits of an employee assistance program if there is ever a need to see a licensed counselor regarding personal, family, or work-related issues. The program is entirely confidential and includes 10 counseling visits at no charge to the employee (per year) and members of their immediate family.
Professional Development and Training
CIS-CT provides many hours of professional training designed to help employees perform their jobs to their utmost capacity. Highly trained and well-respected professionals in the social services and human services field facilitate many of the training programs, including an annual ethics course, throughout the year. Other programs are presented by qualified CIS-CT staff. CEUs are available for many of the sessions.
Payday
Non-exempt employees are paid on the 15th and the last working day of the month. Exempt employees are paid once a month, on the last working day of the month.
Intangibles
The intangible benefits are as important as the tangible benefits like insurance and a retirement plan. A strong sense of purpose, a caring staff, and a casual atmosphere make Communities In Schools-Central Texas, Inc. one of the best places you'll ever work.*
Employees who work less than 40 hours per week will receive benefits equal to their percent of full time. For example, 20 hours per week equals 50% of full time. Sick time is accrued at 4 hours per month, vacation at 3.33 hours per month, and the amount of personal time allowed is 12 hours per year.
Newly hired CIS employees will meet with the director of human resources and receive an in-depth orientation about benefits, agency policies, and standard operating procedures and practices.
