Communities In Schools’ ASPIRE Family Literacy Program was named Austin Independent School District’s  Special Program of the year for 2008 by Austin Partners In Education (APIE).  This award honors outstanding resources and services for the betterment of education within the school district.  The ASPIRE Family Literacy Program was chosen by a panel of community judges from a group of 27 nominated programs.  (read more/click )

What We Do: Communities In Schools is Central Texas' leading dropout prevention program.

Children cannot learn at their potential when they are in crisis or face significant non-academic needs. Most students who drop out of school are dealing with multiple problems that present barriers to their education: poverty, unattended health needs, hunger, an unemployed parent, domestic violence.

Through campus-based programs and special projects, Communities In Schools creates a network of volunteers, social services, businesses, and community resources that work together to break down barriers and help students succeed. And the formula works: last year, 99% of the students referred to Communities In Schools stayed in school.
